MARENGO had speed from the start, turned back SICKLE SUE when roused in the early stretch and in a sustained drive held SHADOW BOXING safe. The lattev slew to start, moved from between horses in the stretch and finished full of run. JAKABLOM saved ground while making a bold but belated bid. SICKLE SUE gave way suddenly after racing v/rh the winner to the eariy stretch. SEVEN PILLARS had no apparent excuse in an even effort. FELDA, held under restraint for the first half mile, was sent up on the outside thereafter to engage HILL STREET on entering the stretch, displaced that one while bearing out and prevailed in a sustained drive. ROBERT came to the outside to advance on the second turn and, after making a menacing rally in the early stretch, faltered HILL STREET forced the early pace while in hand, wore down FLYING CIRCUS from the outside midway around the second turn, but had little left when the real test came. EQUILLA was never a serious contender. GUN POINT raced wide throughout. LANARK was always far back.
