Miss Dorothy Pagets two-year-old colt, The Saint, first runner ever saddled by Richards, led almost throughout to win the Frogmore Plate of five furlongs for an immensely popular score at even money. The Saint, Irish-bred by Le Lavandou— Ir Angel, only arrived at Sir Gordons Beckhampton Wiltshire Stables two weeks ago. With Jock Wilson, first string rider for Richards, astride, Miss Pagets colt won smartly by two lengths from 18 rivals. Sir Gordon in his 34 years as a top Eng-J lish saddle star, rode 4,870 winners and gained the jockey championship 26 times. Bookmakers late said, The Saint was the heaviest played winner of the day. One layer added, "Backers had been waiting since the start of the season for Sir Gor-j dons first winner and I dont think any-j body wanted to miss it — by the looks of our books, no one did."
