East Boston, Mass., May 10. — King Ranchs High Gun, named co-highweight Monday for Saturdays Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park, today was accorded another post of honor by racing secretary and handicapper Gordon Morrow. The three-year-old champion of 1954 this morning was assigned top weight of 127 pounds for the 0,000 added Massachutsetts Handicap to be run here May 19, a pound more than given to William G. Helis. Jr.s Helioscope and Alfred G. Vanderbilfs Social Outcast, both rated at 126. C. V. Whitneys Fisherman is next in line among the 21 Massachusetts eligibles with 125 pounds. The Massachusetts, for three-year-olds and upward is one of the top events of the New England season. It is raced over a distance of a mile and a quarter. This will be the twenty-first running of the event. High Gun was assigned a burden of 130 pounds for the Metropolitan, sharing the highweight post With Helioscope, whom he must concede one pound in the Suffolk feature. Virtually all of the leading handicap performers weighted for the Metropolitan are among the 21 horses who received weights assignments for the Massachusetts. In addition to the powerful quartet of runners who top the list of Massachusetts weights, other stars assigned poundage by Morrow include Maine Chane Farms Jet Action. Mrs. E. D. Jacobs Joe Jones, Brookmeade Stables Capeador and Calumet Farms Mark-Ye-Well. Jet Action Has 119 Pounds Jet Action has been assigned 119 pounds, followed by Joe Jones with 117, Capeador with 116 and Mark-Ye-Well with 115. The list of weights then runs to a low of 100 pounds on Mighty Ike. High Gun has yet to be seen under colors this year. The colt last raced on October 6, when he scored easily in the two-mile Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont. He wound up the season with six victories in 14 starts and earnings of 14,-550. He was voted the leading three-year-old in the annual poll conducted by Daily Racing Form and The Morning Telegraph. Helioscope has been little short of sensational in his three outings this season, setting track records in his triumphs at Bowie and Garden State Park. In his other start of the year, he was third to Social Outcast and Fisherman in the Campbell Memorial at Bowie. Social Outcast, in ad-didition to his Campbell score, won the McLennan at Hialeah and came up to New England to take the Lincoln Special at Lincoln Downs. Fisherman was beaten a nose in the Campbell and scored in Jamaicas Excelsior Handicap in his only other start of the season. Complete list of the weights follows: Horse Wt. Horse Wt.
