It was the 11th victory of Newcombe career over the Cubs, who never have beaten him. He retired the first 10 men before Gene Baker singled sharply past the mound with one out in the fourth inning, Thereafter none of the Cubs got on base and only three hit the ball to the outfield. Duke Snider provided Newcombe with enough to win with his 200th major league home run and his ninth this season, a blast over the right field corner in the sixth. The blow gave Snider first place in the Na- -I j tional league home run derby, Brooklyns second run came in the sev-5t - enth on a walk- to Don Hoak, Newcombes f single and Junior Gilliams sacrifice fly. Gilliams single and Pee Wee Reeses double in the ninth produced another run. 1 It was Newcombes fourth win without a loss this year. Warren Hacker gave up ? nine hits in suffering his second defeat against one win. but he became the fourth u ° pitcher to last the route against Brooklyn this season as the Dodgers scored 22 wins in 24 games.
