, Humphries and Two Grooms j Suspended by Commission Olin Humphries, Ashmore, 111., harness owner and driver, was suspended by the Illinois harness racing commission Monday night on charges of stimulating one of his horses. Chairman Evart Jordan said Humphries. j who had been temporarily suspended last Monday night, will be under suspension until June 4 and will be automatically reinstated two days later. The three - member commission, which met in suburban Maywood, 111., also sus-i pended two grooms. Action was the outcome of a victory by j Humphries horse, Olin Spencer, at May-! wood Park. A routine saliva test showed traces of caffeine. Jordan termed Humphries a "true sportsman" and said it was not definitely ; proved that the horse had been purposely fed the caffeine. However, under commission rules, Jordan said, if a positive test is found, it is presumed that the owner is responsible. The charge sticks, said Jordan, unless the owner proves otherwise. The commissions staff gives saliva tests I to all winning horses and makes spot-checks periodically of those finishing sec-1 ond and third.
