Stretch Run of 1,234 Feet For Kentucky Derby Starters LOUISVILLE. Ky., May 2.— The length of the stretch at Churchill Downs, from the point where the Kentucky Derby is started to the wire, is 1,234 feet. Hasty Road set a new track record in winning the Derby Trial at Churchill Downs in 1954. He was timed the mile in 1:35. Fillies are prominent among the holders of track records at Churchill Downs. Luke Blackburns time for a mile and three-quarters at Churchill Downs, set in 1880, still stands as a record.
