Wagers Not Only Losses Suffered in Classic Run LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Some strange losses, other than wagers, have occurred in the running of the Kentucky Derby down through the years. Belair Studs Granville in 1936 stumbled coming out of the gate and lost his rider, Jimmy Stout. Several horses have lost shoes when the track was muddy. Jockey Charley Kurtsinger lost his whip while astride He Did in the 1936 renewal. He was carrying that piece of equipment in his left hand as the field turned for home. Kurtsinger said an excited fan standing on the rail, reached ,out and grabbed- the whip as _ Jie.nent .br- . - -«
