Thomas Walker Brought First Horses to Kentucky in 1750 LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 2.— Authentic Kentucky historical files reveal that the first horess to come into the state were brought by Thomas Walker in 1750. Walker crossed the mountains from Virginia and hunters later brought pack horses into the Blue Grass region. Horse power was used in the earlier days for farm use and the principal crop was tobacco. Kentucky racing history goes back over 170 years. There were horse races on the streets of Lexington as early as 1780, but the betting was iiot regulated until many years later. Wagering was among the owners as to the respective merits of their charges.
