► _ ITBTT-Wr * * ■IBSr + • - Gone Fishin Has Unusual Pedigree Sire Endeavour II. From Phalaris Line Argentine Star Successful In Stud; Note Dam Saturday Off Foaled Durable Jumpers Gone Fishin. Llangollen Farms roan colt who thrust himself seriously into the Kentucky Derby picture by upsetting "Jhe pee-puls cherce," Silky Sullivan, a few weeks ago at Golden Gate Fields, is by the imported Argentine horse Endeavour II., who stands in California, and out of the unraced Kiev matron Saturday Off. Gone Fishins top side is something to brag about, but his distaff family has not been exciting meticulous breeders in recent years. Endeavour H., winner of 11 of 18 starts in his homeland, represented Argentina in an International Gold Cup at Belmont Park, and, while he was unplaced, there were many observers who thought he did admirably considering the manner in which he was handled coming up to the race. A handsome horse, Mrs. Richard Lunn fell in love with his looks" and promptly purchased him. Retired to stud after winning in this country. Endeavour II. has succeeded as a sire. In his second crop was Porterhouse, leading two-year-old of 1953 and Experimental topweight. In subsequent crops he has never failed to come up with a stakes winner. These include such as Corn Husker, winner of the Santa Anita Handicap .and San Juan«,Capistrano; the Astoria winner Trying; the La Centinela winner Tipper, and such high-class runners as Staffordshire. Tessa, Ordained, Blue Spruce and Week-End. Try It Equaled Turf Paradise Mark Endeavour n.s most recent stakes winner was Corn Huskefs full brother, the three-year-old Try It, who equaled the mile record at Turf Paradise in his first effort past 6 furlongs. Endeavour II.s class and stamina ratings are both far above the national average. Endeavour II.s sire was the Pharlaris-line horse British Empire, who won stakes in England before his export and who ranked second with Stardust on the English Free Handicap. British Empire has led. the Argentine sire list. His dam, Rose of England, by the influential Teddy, won the Epsom Oaks. Himalaya, Endeavour ECs dam. did not race, but she produced several winners.- Her dam, Partenope, placed, and produced several stakes winners in Argentina, while the next dam, Mystify, won in the United States before her export. Mystify was by Disguise, who was by Domino and was out of Dominoes, by Domino,, so she was intensely inbred to that great line founder. Himalaya was by Hunters Moon not the IV. , a half brother to Hyperion, Sickle, Pharamond IL and Moonlight Run, by Hurry On. Saturday Off, Gone Fishins dam, has not had many foals to race on the flat. Her best until Gone Fishin* was the stakes class Week-End. It is said that Saturday Off has had several jumpers who could run "all day." Saturday Offs sire, Kiev, is, seldom found in good pedigrees today. He was a comparative failure both as a performer and a sire. He was by the gray Stefan the Great, jokingly called "Stoppin* the Great." a son of The Tetrarcli. Female LineProduced Good Ones Saturday Offs tail female family has produced some good horses. Her dam. Mexican Tea, by Tea Caddy, bred the good winner Burning Blaze, and the latters full sister, Laila Wild, was dam of the Kentucky Oaks winner Flying Lill. Incidentally, Gone Fishins eighth dam was Minnie Lewis, a half sister to Glenrose, who was fourth dam to Dominos superlative son Commando. Actually, the most animated and vigorous line in Gone Fishins pedigree is that through Tea Caddy, sire of the dam of Saturday Off. Tea Caddy was by Rock Sand, out of Teas Over, a daughter of the sterling Hanover and an ancestress to many excellent American-breds in recent years. Through Tea Caddys full sister, Toggery, Teas Over is an ancestress to the brilliant Jamestown: of My Auntie, who produced the talented but unruly Cousin; the speedy and classy full brothers Johns. Joy and The Doge, who, are succeeding so well as sires; of Sugapud, dam of My Request; of Carolyn A., an excellent race mare who foaled Tahitian King, and of Qbania, Carolyn A.s full sister, who bred the champion three-year-old filly Grecian Queen. The Teas Over family also is responsible for Hard Tack, sire of Seabiscuit; of the Ladies Handicap winner Red Eye; of Gusto, who won a Jockey Club Gold Cup, an American. Derby and an Arlington Classic: of One Hour, who bred the Selima winner Split Second, the Lawrence Realization winner Magic Hour and" the Kentucky Derby winner Hoop, Jr. KENTUCKY DERBY TROPHY.
