Runnymede Makes Mark In Historic Downs Race LOUISVILLE, Ky.— .Two thoroughbreds with the same name have plas-ed important parts in the running of the Kentucky Derby. In the 1882 renewal the Dwyer Bros. Runnymede got to the front in the deep stretch only to be beaten in the final strides by Morris and Pattons Apollo. Forty years later the name Runnymede appeared again this time as the sire of the winning Morvich.
