► Determine Put an End To Gray Jinx in Race LOUISVILLE, Ky.— In the 83 runnings of the Kentucky Derby, only Andrew Crevolins Determine has been able to beat the "gray" horse jinx. Prior to his success in the 1954 renewal, no gray horse had been able to win the coveted race. Only the year before Native Dancer, one of the greatest gray thoroughbreds of all time, succumbed to the jinx. He suffered the only loss of his career when he was beaten a head, by Dark Star.
