WHIRLAWAY, eased back when blocked in the first eignth and taken to the inside approaching the first turn, started up after reaching the final half mile, was taken between horses on the final turn, responded with much energy, to take command, with a rush and, continuing with much power, drew out fast in the final eighth. STARETOR, away slowly and allowed to remain well back the first five-eighths, made the move gradually drifted out slightly before straightening up in the stretch and held on well in the final drive. MARKET WISE, also well back early, was slow to respond to pressure, but rallied after reaching the last five-sixteeiHhs and, finishing with courage, was wearing down STARETOR. PORTERS CAP, a strong factor from the start, and always clear as he raced on the outside, responded in strong urging when rounding the final turn, but tired after reaching the last three-slxteenlhs. LITTLE BEANS raced well fcom a very sluggish beginning, then closed courageously to pass tired horses in the stretch. DISPOSE took command easily, was allowed to run along well within himself through the back stretch, was. under pressure after three-quarters and held on fairly well to the closing three-sixteenths, where he faltered badly. BLUE PAIR quit after showing speedfor a mile. OUR BOOTS could not g: with the early leaders under urging and failed to keep up after reaching" the last half mile. ROBERT MORRIS began well, but dropped out, of contention after a half mile and was far.back thereafter. Pensive— 1944 SEVENTH. RACE 1 1-4 MILES. Whirlaway, May 3, 1S41-2:0H4-?— 126. PENSIVE worked his way forward on the outside, was sent to the inside when the leaders swung wide approaching the stretch, came willingly when put to strong pressure, wore down the leaders swiftly, and wen drawing away. BROADCLOTH, under steadying restraint while maintaining a contending position, took command after three-quarters, was unable to draw clear and failed to withstand the winner. STIR UP was steadied after reaching a prominent position, moved forward with BROADCLOTH, was forced to lose some ground when challenging for the lead, was ready to go into command when the winner forged to the front and held on well. SHUT UP, slow to begin, worked his way forward through the field and closed with a rush. BRIEF SIGH, lucky to find room when racing forwardly, reached contention after seven-eighths and tired in the drive. GAY BIT came from well back and closed resolutely. BELL BUZZER,broke slowly and passed tiring horses in the drive. GRAMPS IMAGE raced well back early, was forced to the outside for room and lost ground thereafter. SKYTRACER was in close quarters going into the turn, moved up when clear and then tired. COMENOW had good speed for three-quarters, drifted out approaching the far turn and then quit badly. ALORTER was knocked back going into the backstretch and failed to recover. DIAVOLAW was rushed to the front and was done after three-quarters. CHALLENGE ME was unable to keep up. CITATION, away forwardly and losing ground while racing back of COALTOWN to the stretch, responded readily to a steady hand ride after disposing of the latter and drew clear. COALTOWN began fast, established a clear lead before going a quarter and making the pace on the inside in the stretch, continued willingly, but was not good enough for CITATION* although easily best of the others. MY REQUEST, bothered slightly after the start, was in hand while improving his position to the stretch, then failed to rally when set down for the drive. BILLINGS suffered interference after the break when GRANDPERE bore to the outside, was in close quarters on the first turn when caught between ESCADRU and CITATION, then could not better his position when clear. GRANDPERE broke into BILLINGS at the start, displayed speed for half mile, then gave way. ESCADRU, forced to take iip when in close quarters entering the backstretch, could not reach serious contention thereafter and tired badly after going three-quarters of a mile. _ Scratched— 474514 Gale*y,126. * l f; . ,
