Four Derbys have been won by eight lengths. This was accomplished by Old Rosebud in 1914, Johnstown in 1939," Whirlaway in 1941 and Assault in 194G. A nose has been the decisive margin on six occasions. The first occurred in 1889 when Spokane scored over Proctor Knott. The most recent was last • when Iron Liege turned back Gallant Man.
