MAX MURPHY VICTIM j j OF AUTO ACCIDENT j A........................... .. TEXARKANA, Ark., May 25. M. Courtney Kaufman, racing official known on the; turf as Maximilian Murphy, died in Texar-v kana Hospital here last night of injuries; received in. an automobile accident near here last Sunday. His wife, who was badly injured in the same mishap, is believed to be on the road to recovery. At the time of the accident the Kaufmans were en route to Chicago, where Mr. Kaufman was to act as paddock judge at Washington Park and other tracks. Their j machine is believed to have skidded, out of j j control before crashing through the guard, rail of a bridge. Charles Mele, friend of the Kaufmans, who came here from New Orleans to assist them, returned tonight with the body to that city, which Mr. Kaufman made his home. Burial is tentatively set for Monday. Mrs. Charles J. McLennan and Mrs. Roy Dickerson are en route here f rom Chicago! to remain with Mrs. Kaufman Until she recovers. Her injuries will keep her in the same hospital for, three to four weeks.
