POMPOON WORKS HALF MILE COLUMBIA, S. C, April 2. Squelching rumors that he had gone wrong in training, J. H. Louchheims Pompoon, champion two-year-old of last season and favorite for the Kentucky Derby, which will be run May 8, worked half a mile here today in :49. The son of Pompey and Oonagh ran the distance easily and appears to be training well. Present plans of the stable are for Pompoon to make his first start as a three-year-old in the Wood Memorial Stakes, one mile and seventy yards, at Jamaica, on May 1.
