1 BOWIE TURF NOTES " s When "Sonny" Workman departed for Kentucky, agent George Burke took over jockey Johnny Gilbert, contract rider for J. H. Whitney. The latter has twelve horses here in care of "Big Bill" Norton. Bill Gillespie, who has been training the A. C. Rose horses, turned them over to Phil Reuter. Gillespie will make the riding engagements for Jackie Westrope. Cecil Knight got in from New Orleans with the apprentice W. Duffy. This lad, according to Knight, won forty-seven races the past winter. J. P. Jones motored over for the racing Thursday afternoon and stated that he would ship a division of his stable to Jamaica and leave the others here. Don Cameron arrived from California. He has a dozen horses in training for J. S. Riley of Norfolk, Va. Walter Donovan arrived from Miami and will remain for several days. W. H. Gallagher was a visitor during the afternoon. Ho has a dozen horses in training at Jamaica and Tropical Park. R. H. "Specs" Crawford, who formerly trained the steeplechase division of the Brookmeade Stable, has been named trainer for a division of the Audley Farm of Vir-i ginia. Crawford, once the king pin steeplechase rider of America, reached Pimlico Friday with three fillies and as many colts for his new employers. Jack Campbell said that weights for the Paumonok Handicap at Jamaica would be released Monday. Walter Carter will ship Cloidon and other horses he has at Columbia to Belmont Park this week, according to word received today. Cloidon is a candidate for the Paumonok and Wood Memorial.
