DETROITS ATTRACTION ,000 Added Pontchartrain Stakes Battle Between Local Owners. Old Nassau Only Outsider in Motor City Headliner Remainder of Saturdays Card Promising. DETROIT, Mich., June 11. Eight evenly matched three-year-olds were named for the third running of the Pontchartrain Stakes, which tops the most attractive program of the Detroit spring season. Supporting the feature, which is endowed with ,000 in added money and calls for a journey of one mile and a sixteenth, is the Grosse Point Handicap. Two-year-olds meet under allowance conditions in the third race and the fourth event brings together nine top-notch sprinting platers at six furlongs. With the exception of Eddie H., the only maiden in the field, the three-year-olds meet under 114 pounds each. Eddie H.s weight is 109. Due to his splendid and winning effort several days ago, E. W. Duffys Detroit-owned Grey Gold probably will enjoy favoritism, but Chalphone demonstrated when he turned back Eddie H., Sweepalot and others in the Cadillac Purse for his third straight victory that it will take a good horse to beat him for the rich prize. LOCAL SEASONS DEBUT. Bomar Stables Siam, winner of two ot his five starts this year, and Hal Price Head-leys Old Nassau will be making their local seasons debut. Sweepalot, which, with Eddie H., revived the now famous and immortal Head Play-Brokers Tip duel in the Cadillac Purse, will have Good Catch as a running mate. The latter was well beaten in his last effort when he was coupled with Sweepalot. Nad, the property of T. D. Buhl, completes the field. Excepting Old Nassau, it is strictly a battle between locally owned horses. In 1936, when the race was a handicap and open to three-year-olds and over, Whopper was the winner, but the first running witnessed Paradisical and Sun Portland showing the way to Azucar and other older performers. Mrs. James Chesneys Cristate, E. W. Duffys Sir Jim James and Willow Brook Stables Stocks will carry the top weights of 112 pounds each in the Grosse Point Handicap. Faru, an invader from Canada under 110 pounds; Brendard, which was assigned 108 pounds, and T. D. Buhls Gyral, under 106, complete the field. EXPECT CAPACITY CROWD.
