HAUGHT0N MWC VfCTOS Cascapedia Gallops Fast Mile and a Sixteenth to Account for Beacon Claiming Stakes. BOSTON, Mass., June 11. Mrs. Ed Haugh-tons Cascapedia, sped a fast mile and a sixteenth to win the Beacon Claiming Stakes, which featured todays sport a,t Suffolk Downs The winner caught the pacemaking Likewise, from F. L. Flanders Stable, in the stretch and drew away from that tiring racer in the final yards to score by two and a half lengths, finishing the journey in 1:44, four-fifths of a second off Time Supplys track record for the distance. Reelon, who chased the leader most of the way; was: third, beaten a neck for the runner-up award. C. V. Whitneys Rough Diamond was a distant fourth in the field of seven. Likewise broke fast and took a couple of lengths lead before they had straightened out for the run down the backstretch. Reelon was also off fast and pursued the Wise Counsellor gelding in the run to the far turn. Cascapedia was well back of the pair, but running easily as they made the final turn. There Kem Knott roused him, and he readily closed the gap that separated him from the leaders. They came into the stretch with Likewise still in front. Just past the eighth post, Reelon began to give ground and at the sixteenth post, Cascapedia was second and only half a length off the leader. He raced past and was drawing away in the final seventy yards. Rough Diamond made a futile effort in his last eighth mile, but never loomed up as a formidable factor. Don Guzman was close in the early stages, but tired. The track was fast despite the rains of the previous evening. A good crowd for a Friday was on hand for the sport.
