GAY WATER, well handled and in close attendance of the pace the first half mile, swung to the outside entering the stretch, closed with a rush, wore down the leaders and outfinished MINDREADER. The latter, unable to keep pace the first half mile, came to the extreme outside, closed with a rush and was gradually wearing the winner down at the end. BOSCOBEL, a forward factor from the start, raced. CONTRIBUTE into defeat, shook off GENE D. and had little left when the first two challenged. GENE D. set the pace for five-eighths, then faltered in the final eighth. KAWAGOE made up ground. CONTRIBUTE quit. LAST TIME had speed for half a mile. Overweight Gay Waters, 1 pounds; Contribute, 2. GOVERNOR BILL forced the pace from the start, then faltered nearing the end and had no excuses. LORRAINE S. worked her way forward steadily on the outside, closed gamely, but was unable to threaten the first two. EL BANDIDO was hustled through on the inside rounding the turn, then faltered in the drive. SEEMEGO went evenly. SUE JONES could never reach contention. MAPLE TINTS, unruly at the start, followed in closest attendance of the pace and, saving ground throughout, drove through on the inside in the stretch and was going away at the end. SANTAN, rated in close attendance of the pace the first three-eighths, moved up fast on the outside entering the stretch, wore down NANDI but was unable to contend with the winners closing rush. NANDI was hustled into the lead at once, drew clear entering the stretch, then faltered in the drive. CHARLES J. went evenly. RIDEAU could never threaten. DIXIE PRINCESS quit. FRIGID FROSTY came gamely through the final quarter and outfinished ASPERGE. The latter broke in at the start, blocked MISSOURI JIM and could never threaten. LUGANO worked its way fdrward on the inside and closed with a rush when clear in the final eighth. GOLDFIN went evenly,. FAIR ELISE lired badly after three-quarters. DENCLAIRE quit.
