UNITED HUNTS PRIZES ,000 Annual Spring Meeting to Be Held Saturday With Bowman Steeplechase Handicap Big Feature. NEW YORK, N. Yi, June 11. Nearly ,000 in prize money will be offered in one of the most varied programs of the current hunt racing season when the United Hunts Racing Association holds its annual spring meeting at Roslyn, Long Island, on June 12th, it was announced by Raymond Guest, president of the association. In addition to the annual running of the featured Bowman Steeplechase Handicap for a purse of ,000, there will be a special ,000 steeplechase for the French subscription horses, a "pony express" plate for polo ponies, and four other events. The Bowman Steeplechase, won last year by F. Ambrose Clarks Hurry Harry, will be a two mile run over a brush course. Thirteen horses were entered in this event last year and an even larger number of entries is expected for this seasons meeting. Mrs. W. C. Wright, with successive victories in 1934 and 1935 with her horses Cifo and Silverskin, took permanent possession of the first trophy offered in this event by James W. Gerard. A new trophy has "been offered this year. Replicas of this will be presented to each years winner until such time as one owner takes permanent possession of the original by amassing three victories. RACE FOR IMPORTED HORSES. The Lafayette, for the French subscription horses, will also be a two mile run over the brush course. These horses, brought to America by the subscription steeplechase committee, of which Harold B. Talbott and F. S. Von Stade of the United Hunts Racing Association are members, have attracted so much favorable comment in recent meetings that the special race at Roslyn was arranged and a purse of ,000 offered. The R. Penn Smith, Jr., Steeplechase Handicap will be another feature of the afternoons program. It will be two and one-half miles over the brush course for a purse- of 00. . It was won last year by F. M. Goulds What Have You in a field of ten starters. The only flat race of the afternoon will be the "O, so named after Mrs. Norman K. Toerges winning horse. It will be open to amateur riders only and will be a mile and one-quarter run for a purse of 00. Last year Richard K. Mellons Tool Box won this event. Racing will begin at 2:45 p. m. The first race will be the Jericho Steeplechase, a two mile brush run for 00. This will be followed by the only hurdle race of the afternoon, the Brookville Plate, a mile and one-half run for a 00 purse.
