LAFAYETTE BOY followed PERJURED closely in the early running, took command at the turn on the back stretch, came out into the firmer footing when reaching the stretch and had something in reserve at the end. ESTHERS CHOICE gained steadily on the outside in the last three-sixteenths and closed with splendid courage in the final drive. KAI SOU, forced to race on the inside until reaching the stretch, came to the outside and finished with good energy. STENTORIAN went in the first flight for a half mile, then tired gradually. PFfLINE, close up in the early running, wore GREY CHIEFTAIN down at the turn out of the back stretch, continued stoutly when in front and held TZIGANE safe under vigorous riding in the stretch. The latter raced stoutly all during the running, saved ground wherever possible and held on well to the close. VEILSTAR improved her position steadily and closed with good courage after coming wide into the front stretch. DIVIDED SKIRT raced in spots. ORBREY lost ground all the way. ELSIE J. began slowly and could not threaten. EBON ZE was never a factor. GREY CHIEFTAIN quit early. The others were never prominent. BESS TAM, going in her best form and kept dose to the leaders in the early racing, was kept out in the firmer footing for the final test and, finishing determinedly, was up in the last strides. DISOWN sprinted into a clear lead soon after the start, was steadied until reachjng the stretch, finished in the deeper footing on the inside during the stretch run and tired badly nearing the close. BRIEF was on the outside in the best footing from the start and finished with a belated rush. NANCY MAE settled in her stride after a half mile and came with a bold rush in the Final drive. DOCTOR BERT was gaining slowly at the end. SPOTLESS lacked speed and was outrun. PIPERS TUNE quit badly in the last quarter mile. SWIFT RUNNER could not untrack himself in the going. TOMAH went around his field with a rush to enter contention nearing the. stretch, bore, over on BROADSTEP in the final eighth and continued gamely to withstand ALS PRIDE. The latter gained fast after being pinched back at the turn out of the back stretch and was going the fastest at the close. BROADSTEP went through between horses on the turn, challenged the leaders stoutly at the stretch turn but was. guided into the deeper footing and labored approaching the finish GREY HIP went off stride on the turn, recovered and came stoutly at the close. DORNOCH was stoutly ridden all the way. LOYAL SON tired badly in the last quarter mile. WEDDING RING quit. CHAUVIN was in trouble when PREVENTION fell and was unable to reach contention thereafter. ROYAL CUNNING could not enter contention. QUIET LASS had no excuses. DARK BEAU was outrun. TOOTHPICK rallied willingly when shaken up but was unable to threaten the first two in the final test. BULLFINCH had no mishaps. The latter, taken back off the early pace after breaking swiftly engaged the winner at the stretch turn and fought it out stoutly. BONNIE MAID offered stout opposition for five-eighths, then tired.
