PLANNING SPECIAL FEATURES Value of Events at Shreveport Will Depend Upon Caliber of Horses Taking Part in Contests. SHREVEPORT, La., Oct. 3 A number of special events are being planned for the twenty-five-day race meeting to be conducted at the local Fair Grounds track, and among them will be feature contests for the best sprinters on the scene and the best distance performers. The value of the purses for these races will depend upon the caliber of the horses themselves and as soon as a representative number arrive, the management will make a definite announcement of these special races. During the first week of the meeting, or while the state fair is in progress, only six races will be run daily, while seven will be presented daily thereafter and eight on Saturdays. It may be possible to stage seven races on the. first Saturday, but the track must be cleared in time to permit state fair workers to prepare for their own exhibitions, which are presented at night on a giant stage in the track centerfield. State fair officials are as enthusiastic over the race meeting as are the business men behind the venture, for it is probable that the thoroughbred sport will attract many to the fair who otherwise might not attend the agricultural and livestock show.
