I HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES I $ . Jockey Wallace Leishman will head for Narragansett after the close of the Hawthorne season. Mrs. J. A. Nix claimed Foolem out of tfi eighth race at Hawthorne Saturday for ,500. Jockey Paul Ryan is leaving here for California where he will ride through the winter. Willie Crump is taking the King Ranchs Chicharra and Pascua to Lexington in a day or so. He will race the two juveniles at Keeneland and Churchill Downs and then will ship them to the King Ranch in Texas. S. J. Norris is taking his Mr. Blaze", winner of the Hawthorne Speed Handicap last Saturday, to Narragansett after the close here. He also will take Gatlin with him. Acting for Mrs. J. D. Hertz, W. L. Levy sold Reigh Mouse to Mrs. J. A. Koury for a private consideration. L. King will train t the horse. In a flat trade at Hawthorne August Swenke, representing A. R. Born gave Redress to Mrs. Lon Copenhaver for Shasta Lark. No money was involved, it was said. J. S, Gosselin sold all his horses to his brother, W. W. Gosselin and the latter engaged G. L. Wilson, brother of Leonard Wilson to train them. The string includes Bob-brax, Lauerman, Low Cuts and China Boy. R. T. Watts formerly conditioned the quartet. S. B. Ott purchased the four-year-old Tankie from Mrs. M. Sheppard and the filly will be sent to Almahurst Farm in Kentucky to be used for breeding purposes. Tankie is a half sister to Tiger, she being by Greenock and Starless Moment. Tigers sire is Bull Dog. John Oros is due here from Fairmount with ten horses which are to be raced during the remainder of the Illinois season here and at Sportsmans Park. J. P. Sallee, acting for Thomas Piatt, bought the juvenile, Francine W., from the partnership of E. and I. Weil at private terms. R. Cockran, Monday, registered Try Fair and Nick D., which came from Beulah Park. They will be raced through the Sportsmans Park season. B. P. Woodsons Leading Article which probably would have been the favorite for the Hawthorne Speed Handicap, was withdrawn by his trainer, D. H. Carroll, who, reported the gelding has gone slightly amiss. "The injury was noticed at the barn after Leading Article had been given a short breeze. Joe Allen, who has been connected with racing all his life and for many years was a prominent figure in the betting rings of the big trades, was removed to a local hospital and while his exact condition has not been determined he is quite ill. 1 .
