JOSEPH ALLEN DIES Joseph Allen, of Covington, Ky., who spent almost his entire lifetime on the turf, died i at 6 oclock this morning in a local hospital at the age of 74. Allen succumbed to pneumonia after only three days illness, although he had not been in robust health for almost a year. He was known wherever the thoroughbreds raced, and his friends among turf folk were legion. For years he was conspicuous in the betting rings, where he was employed by some of the leading bookmakers of that period. Later he was associated with the late John Fay, of Cincinnati, as a clerk and accountant, but for the past decade Allen had taken in some of the principal meetings each year. The body was shipped to Covington for burial. His only survivor, Bradford Allen, Cincinnati restaurant owner, rushed here but arrived just a little more than an hour after his father died.
