J. H. WHITNEY SIGNS SANDE New York Sportsman Turns Over Half His Stable to Ex-Rider Continues With Howard. NEW YORK, N. Y., Oct. 3. Earl Sande, considered one of the greatest jockeys this country ever produced and in recent years a successful trainer, completed arrangements today to take over a division of horses from the stable of John Hay Whitney, New York sportsman and member of the State Racing Commission and The Jockey Club. In announcing the acquisition of Mr. Sande, Mr. Whitney stated that he had decided to divide his racing establishment into two divisions. James Healey, who has been head trainer for .many years, will handle one group of horses and Sande will assume charge of the other. Sande, however, will continue to train Stagehand, The Chief and others for Maxwell Howard of Dayton, Ohio. SUGGESTS ARRANGEMENT. "Some time ago Mr. Healey came to me and suggested such an arrangement," said Mr. Whitney in a statement today. "As my stable is a fairly large one, I gave the matter considerable thought and I am in complete accord with the plan. In dividing my stable into two sections, with a trainer in charge of each, I am certain the results will be most satisfactory. It will enable each man to concentrate on a smaller number of, horses. In naming Sande to take charge of one division, , Mr. Healey and I are of the belief that a wise choice has been made. Sandes success of the past year speaks for itself." Whitney also stated that he will send a division of horses, headed by Flying Scot, winner of the Arlington Classic and Withers Stakes last year, to California for winter racing in charge of Wm. J. Norton. SANDES NEW CHARGES. In completing the division of his stable, Whitney made known that the horses taken over by Sande include the following: Two-year-olds, Heather Broom, ch. c, by The Porter Janet Blair; Counterpoise, by EquipoiseLast Song; Easy Does It, gr. f, by Royal Minstrel Easy Come, and Grotesque, b. f, by Equipoise Halloween II.
