NOMINATIONS FOR FEATURES Illinois Owners Handicap and Hawthorne Juvenile Handicap Next Headliners at Cicero Track. CICERO, 111., Oct. 3. The last two stakes to be seen in Chicago during the 1938 racing season the Illinois Owners Handicap and the Hawthorne Juvenile Handicap drew small but well-matched fields, racing secretary Julius Reeder announced today. A total of one dozen thoroughbreds owned by residents of the state were placed in the mile and one-sixteenth special, which is a unique fixture at the west side track. j The Juvenile, which provides the two-year-old division with its first test here over a six and one-half furlongs route, attracted the nominations of fourteen youngsters. Weights for both stakes are to be announced tomorrow. OLDEST FIXTURES. The two stakes are the oldest consecutively run fixtures on the Hawthorne card. Neither has been absent a single year since their inaugural runnings. For the Juvenile next Saturdays running will be the twelfth, it having been first staged in 1927. The Illinois Owners was started three years later, and will have its ninth running this week. In the past, outstanding thoroughbreds have won both races. The Juvenile has gone to Don Leon, Hygro, Head Play, Advantage j and Co-Sport, among others. Such good Illinois-owned horses as Martie Flynn, My j Dandy, Indian Runner, Top Dog and St. Bernard have come home first in the longer I event. Last years running went to Our Count, which recently was destroyed. CONSISTENT WINNER. Clarence Davisons- stable will be well-represented this year, however, with Change1 Ray named for the race. Chance Ray has raced consistently in stakes here all season. His greatest opposition may come from William Maloneys Her Reigh, Mrs. Jake Low-ensteins Novelette, and the Mrs. Emil Dene-mark entry of Chasar and Uneasy.
