1 SHREVEPORT TURF NOTES t $ Tom Moran, former owner a"nd trainer, who served as custodian of the jockeys room last fall, has been re-engaged and is expected to arrive in Shreveport Monday from Keeneland Park. Jockeys C. F. Simpson, Pete Martinez, Dan Erb and Charlie Williams are the latest additions to the riding colony. Louisiana and east Texas towns will be honored at various stages of the twenty-five-day meeting and delegations from these points will be entertained. Eugene "Frenchy" Schwartz has been appointed timer. He served in the same capacity at Aurora and Fairmount Park this year. Racing secretary Emmet A. Hileman has prepared a varied program of races for the inauguration of the season, the card comprising four sprints and a trio of distance races. George Miller, who a number of years ago rode for the Greentree Stable, has given first call on his services to Carl Newsome, trainer for Pershall and Jameson, for the duration of the Shreveport meeting. According to horsemen who have been breezing their charges for the past week, the track proper is in better condition than it has been any time since its construction. Roy Hodges checked in with Prince West-end and Phantom Pride from Beulah Park. Jockey fees for winning mounts will be 5 and for losing mounts except when the purse value of a race is in excess of 00. Schooling from the Maxwell barrier, which will be used for all starts during the Shreveport meeting, will begin on Monday, it was announced by starter Tom Brown. The webbing will replace the starting machine.
