1 SHREVEPORT TURF NOTES f $ 3 An effort will be made to offer a larger number of distance races than was staged last fall. Racing secretary Hileman has been going over the registration at hand to ascertain the percentage of sprinters and routers and will govern himself accordingly in the drafting of the second issue of the condition book. With the arrival of George Barrett from Chicago over the week-end, a meeting will be held by officials of the State Jockey Club, to reach a decision on the races which the "Daily Double" will be conducted. Much favorable comment has been received on the general appearance of the I Fair Grounds course as a number of visitors have gone over the grounds during the past j few days. Ed. Shipp, New Orleans turfman who 1 plans to have some representation from his stable ready for action at the Shreveport track, is expected from the Crescent City within the next few days. E. Bernard Weiss; vice president of the Louisiana State Fair and director of racing, is devoting much of his time to arranging details in connection with the return of the thoroughbred sport. C. C. Lemons arrived from Fairmount Park this morning with three horses that be will campaign here. Jockey Jack Taylor checked in from Wheeling and reported that several other reinsmen who rode there, are coming here. N. L. Morris brought in Folly Shaw and Lileal. They have been in action in West Virginia. According to L. D. Moore, the plater Spick-een, which he acquired from Red Wingfield before departing from Fairmount Park, has been shipped to Springfield, HI., and will be returned to the local track some time next week. The injuries sustained by John Marcum when he suffered a car fit en route to Shreveport, are not as serious as was first believed. He will be sent to J. M. Brooks farm at New Iberia, La., for a rest. Julius Siegel, Shreveport wresting pro- moter, contemplates making several additions to his stable during the forthcoming meeting and has applied for stabling reservations at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans, for the winter season. Requests for stabling accommodations at State Fair Grounds continue to pour in, and indications are that one and possibly two more barns will be under construction early next week. T. R. Marullo will look after the training of the local division of Norman "Butsey" Hernandez stable. The horses to be sent here have not yet been selected. Because of the lack of facilities, track superintendent Tom J. Brown has found it necessary to reject a number of late requests from Texans for stall room.
