"OFF" TRACK PROGRAM Unseasonable Weather Causes Drop in Attendance at Fairmount. Victory March Outpoints Red Sails in Fourth Race While Held at Odds of 30 to 1. COLLINSVILLE, 111., May 11.— Wednesday nights storm and heavy rains produced an "off" track for the program of eight races offered at Fairmount Park Thursday afternoon. Because of the decided drop in temperature, there was also an accompanying drop in the attendance. However, the brand of sport presented was entirely satisfactory to the public. There were several bristling races presented during the afternoon, with the camera being called into use on a number of occasions. Form players suffered heavy casualties in the first three races, Ultidue, the winner of the first race being the only favorite to finish on the front end during the early part of the card. Long shots were the order, and in the fourth event, which was for two-year-olds, another "big figure" horse scored when Victory March, a 30 to 1 shot, came across the line of finish a scant head in front of Red Sails, another one also held in light regard. Rose Garden took down the show portion from Scar-Finn by a head. COMES FROM REAR. The winner, which had the services of jockey G. C. Fisher and which was accounting for his first victory in twelve trips post-ward, came from far back to be triumphant. The juvenile gelded son of Wave On — Queen Mother did not reach a contending position until the run for the wire had been reached. Once in the stretch, Victory March began to run, and succeeded in getting up in the final strides to take the decision. Lady Lucille was first to show from the gate and taking a lead of three lengths, held to her advantage until nearing the finish where she stopped badly to finish last in the field of ten juveniles. Ultidue took command at the quarter in the first race but was soon headed, was well rated in reserve to the stretch, where she moved to the fore once again and in a driv- Continued on thirty-ninth page. My Grandson finished third, a length back of Miss Monte and two lengths in front of Be Discreet, which finished fourth. Usickle showed a decided disliking for the heavy going and was pulled up in the stretch. SHOT TOWER SCORES. The second race, contested at six furlongs, saw Shot Tower score a clean-cut victory over Shining Sea. The filly passed under the wire with a length advantage. Third honors fell to Phil Wright. Shot Tower was reserved off the pace until midway of the stretch, where she began moving up. Coming with a great burst of speed through the last seventy yards, she was up to win drawing away. Otto Grohs, riding sensation at the current Fairmount Park meeting, scored another triumph when he was home winner on Prevaricate in the third race and second half of the "Daily Double," registering in easy fashion over Parva Stella by two and a half lengths. Maria Juliet was third, a head before Skalkahoe. Prevaricate was held in light esteem by the .talent and rewarded her backers with 4 for tickets. Holders of the "Daily Double" combination of Shot Tower, winner of the second race, and Prevaricate, received 59.40 for the usual tickets.
