It was found necessary to cut I away part of the hoof to permit drainage of a pus sack that had formed. j The injury is believed to have been incurred during El Chicos final trial for the Wood Memorial Stakes, as it is reported he took a few lame steps afterwards but he later showed no outward signs of being hurt and fulfilled his engagements in the Wood and Kentucky Derby.
