BALL-O-FIRE, away fast, disposed of IDA TARP for the lead in the opening three-sixteenths, met determined opposition from JESSIE V. L. until the closing quarter, drawing out steadily. IDA TARP was taken under slight reserve when the winner raced to the front, responded gamely when reaching the stretch and closed with good energy. CURRANTS, unable to keep pace early, moved through on the inside nearing the far turn, continued to save ground and held on with good energy in the final drive. COUNT COTTON was unable to reach the leaders, wearing down the tiring JESSIE V. L. in the last seventy yards. JESSIE V. MY DAY was under slight restraint while following along in pursuit of the pace, moved through on the inside nearing the stretch when ROSEMAIN carried SHIN PLASTER out, opened up a good lead, but was doing her utmost at the close to hold HOPE DIAMOND safe. The latter, slow to begin and far back until the last five-sixteenths, came to the outside for the closing test and was catching the winner at every stride at the end. BIG BULLY, slightly reserved early, held on with good energy to the close. COOLING SPRING closed some ground through the stretch, but was unable to endanger the leaders. SHIN PLASTER, well placed, was carried extremely wide by ROSEMAIN and faltered through the last three-sixteenths. ROSEMAIN, unruly at the post, was rushed up fast, but started bearing out badly nearing the last turn.
