WISE BEE EASILY BEST Wins Bouquet Claiming Stakes With Front-Running Effort. Greentree Stable Sends Out Their Fourth Steeplechase Winner of Meeting in One Round. NEW YORK, N. Y., May 16.— Wise Bee, the juvenile son of Wise Counsellor and Okaybee, carried the silks of William H. Gallagher to an easy victory in the forty-second running of the Bouquet Claiming Stakes at Belmont Park today. In winning this four and a half furlongs dash, through the straight Widener course, he added ,625 to his earnings. It was his first winning effort in three appearances. Hal Price Head-leys On Stage raced to the place, beating George D. Wideners Seasonal for that share of the purse. John Hay Whitneys Princely Gift was a distant fourth. Unseasonable weather, more like March than mid-May, had an effect in. keeping the crowd down. President Somoza, of Nicaragua, was among todays notable visitors. He took a lively interest in the sport. Only five went to the post in the Bouquet Stakes, and at all times Wise Bee was held at odds-on in the betting. He proved a legitimate choice, for Longden at once took him into the lead and when he was well clear he was not threatened afterwards. Longden had him under a slight restraint as he was showing the way and his winning margin was two lengths. ON STAGE FORCES PACE. On Stage was consistently second, but when Arcaro called on her in an effort to run down the Gallagher colt it was of no avail, though she readily drew away from Seasonal to beat him a length and a half for the place. Seasonal had been third all through the running, making the race virtually a parade all the way. Princely Gift led Ida Rogers home. The latter has not Emanuel since she won a race for Victor was claimed from Ben Jones for ,000 during the Hialeah Park meeting. . The second best race of the day and to many of greater interest than the Bouquet, Purse, named m honor was the Nicaragua of President Somoza. It was at a mile and a sixteenth, for three-year-olds, and it resulted in an easy victory for Hash, giving the Greentree Stable a double. The son of Questionnaire, racing under the top weight of 122 pounds, beat Parker Comings Chip In by five lengths. Chief Onaway was third. George D. Wideners Birch Rod, making • his first appearance of the season, was the choice in the Nicaragua Purse, while Hash was always the second choice, going to the post at 13 to 5. PERFECT PEACE NARROWLY. The opening race was a seven furlongs : dash for platers and a big field went to the post. It resulted in a battling finish, m . which J. S. Summers Perfect Peace earned a close decision over Ken Klings Play Gold, , the favorite. Right at the end Johnny Longden, • who had the mount on the winner, plainly outrode little Ronnie Nash, on the ! Kling plater. Closely lapped on the pair, , Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs imported sprinter, Izar • Zuri, barely took third from The Serf. In the short steeplechase" event, the Greentree ■ Stable silks of Mrs. Payne Whitney" continued . unbeaten when One Round was winner. - It was the second score of the meeting - for the son of Broadside and Solitude, , and he went to the post a 7 to 5 favorite. ; Todays race was the fourth steeplechase since the opening of the Belmont season. The other Greentree winners were Airly Beacon and Tarbrush. At the end of the gallop One Round was i doing his best to beat Frank M. Goulds i Edile a length and a half, and Omel, from i the Northwoods Stable, took third from Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs Atpphan. There was one ; mishap in the running, when Sailors Knot, , when in close quarters, made a bad landing f over the final fence and unseated the amateur, - Bill Jones. Fortunately, both horse and rider escaped serious injury.
