THE FIGHTER, forced to race wide and reserved off the pace, responded when called upon after straightening out in the stretch, got to the front in the last fifty yards and drew out fast in the closing strides. TORCHY had fine speed from the start, was on the inside after the first sixteenth, slowly shook off LIGHTSPUR when placed to a drive, lost the lead when he cased himself after making a bad step less than fifty yards from the finish, did not extend himself thereafter and appeared best. NEIGHBOR, rank at the post, but away well, dropped back in the first quarter and failed to rally when shaken up after reaching the turn, but came with a rush in the stretch. LIGHTSPUR forced the early pace under a strong pull, was still stoutly restrained as he raced to the front on the stretch turn and hung on well to the last eighth, where he tired. GILES COUNTY lost ground in his good effort. MAETOWN quit early. Scratched— 68527 Mothers Love, 105. SEVENTH RACE 1 1-16 MELES. Lady Madcap, May 24, 1922—1:44—4—113. AHEAD, away slowly and steadying while racing wide the first half mile, raced io the lead with a rush on the outside on the final turn and drew out through the stretch, but had little left. MOTLEY worked his way up gradually and finished well in a good effort. NEMONT, under strong reserve for three-quarters, continued in game fashion to the last eighth, where he tired. EXTENDED was well in hand for three-quarters, rallied weakly when urged and tired in the last eighth. JOT-EM-DOWN was held safe. SWEEPING DAME made the early pace under stout restraint and saved much ground, but gave way badly in the last five-sixteenths. PANALONG swerved behind horses n the stretch. JADVA quit. BRILLIANT ROCK almost fell when he stumbled entering the back stretch. Scratched— 73831Boy Valet. 115. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-8 MILES. Dr. Clark, Oct. 20, 1921—1:49—4—119. MISS FIREFLY suffered repeated interference from QUEENIE in the first three-quarters, moved up with a rush after swinging out on the stretch turn and, easily disposing of STAIRS, came away to win handily. LAURA KIEV, well handled and forced wide, responded to strong urging after seven-eighths and wore down STAIRS in the final stride. The latter took command on the first turn, was nicely rated and only tired after reaching the last eighth. LUCY came from far back with a rush in the stretch. UNION quit under pressure.
