GAVIN broke alertly and had good speed from the beginning, was drifting out much of the way and held her advantage without pressure. GIN GIRL, slow to begin, was steadied along to the final quarter, where she responded to urging, and, while racing on the inside, closed a big gap. RIPPLING HIT, well placed from the beginning, was being carried in during the last quarter and held on fairly well. WAGEL had good early speed, but commenced lugging in through the last quarter and tired in the final eighth. GARDEN WEEK gave way suddenly after showing speed to the final furlong. BILL HOWK, steadied along to the Stretch turn, circled his field while rallying for the drive to take command inside the last eighth and gradually drew out. JERSEY ISLE followed in close attendance to the early pace, wrested command while bearing in through the stretch and had nothing left when challenged by the winner. CUSTODY pressed the pace in hand from the inside, moved up boldly under pressure nearing the last furlong and flattened out in the drive. SUNNIP, hard held while saving ground to the final quarter, found racing room between horses when roused and made up some ground. COAT OF ARMS was shuffled back rounding the stretch turn and lacked a closing rally when clear. GAY LOVE assumed command from the inside in the early stretch, was impeded by JERSEY ISLE an eighth out and failed to rally when clear. CAS ADAMS was never a factor. MAID OF OZ was through early. CONFLICT raced with the pace from the leginning, jumped cleanly, wrested command when called on for his best effort nearing the final jump and quickly drew out under strong handling. CHARIOTEER assumed the lead while still under slight restraint nearing the sixth jump, was put to strong urging on the seventh jump, but had little left when the real test came. TITIEN II.. hard held to the sixth jump, ranged up boldly when roused and flattened out in the late stages. GATES MILLS showed good speed for first six jumps and tired. SCHOHARIE was never a serious factor. TALLYMAN could not keep up. STONE ARABIA bolted to the outside after the second jump and was eased thereafter. BIRDIE LULLEY pressed the pace in hand for the first half, rallied from between horses" when roused to take command in the early stretch and, under clever handling, outfinished IRISH WITCH. The latter improved her position steadily while saving ground on the stretch turn, was set down for the drive on entering the final quarter and finished strongest of all. HOYDEN was well placed from the beginning, saved ground much of .the way and faltered under pressure in the late stages. DARK FAVORITE was never far back, raced on the outside throughout, was soundly shaken up in the early stretch to make a brief bid near the final eighth and, while unable to menace the top one, was not persevered with in the final sixteenth. ADMIRELLA made up some ground. NAVY FLASH tired from her early efforts. MIGNONETTE was outrun. GUNNERY GAL worked on out a mile in 1:45. FIFTH RACE 5-8 MILE Widener straight course. The latter had good speed from the beginning, raced true and, while unable to resist the top one, was best of the others. WILY WILLIE made up some ground after a slow beginning. POTENT rallied from the inside in the final eighth to close with a belated rush. SCOTCH WINE had no mishap in an even effort BALL HAWK broke alertly and had good speed for the first three-eighths. THREE RINGS made the pace under good rating, raced a trifle wide much of the way and, under pressure through the stretch, held CONTEST safe. The latter, hard held to the stretch turn, rallied from the outside entering the final quarter to move up boldly in the stretch and hung while drifting out in the late stages. DANADA GIFT made up some ground after being badly outrun early. YANKEE HILL leaped in the air at the break, rushed up fast on the inside going down the backstretch and had nothing left when the real racing began. ROCKLYE made the pace under clever rating, saved ground throughout, disposed of BILLY PERRY while under pressure a quarter out and, under a very strong ride through the stretch, was able to stall off CROESUS. The latter improved his position steadily in the run down the backstretch, was sent up between horses rounding the stretch turn and, while closing strongly through the last eighth, was not quite good enough. BILL COGSWELL was roused in the last quarter and, while moving up strongly in the early stretch, hung under a sustained drive. BILLY PERRY moved up fast on the outside leaving the backstretch and, after making a brief bid nearing the final quarter, tired. COPITO raced wide and lacked a closing rally.
