Training Center Forming Near Santa Barbara SANTA BARBARA, Calif., May 27. The uplands region north and east of Santa Barbara is to have its own training center. John Gardner is building a half-mile course on his Buellton ranch, 42 miles north of the coastal city, and is advertising for yearlings to break and train, and for horses of racing age to rest arid rejuvenate. The horseman is well and favorably known to the ranchers who are breeding thoroughbreds along the coast and around the inland towns of the district, such as Santa Ynez, Solvang and Ballard. This section is rapidly becoming a center of thoroughbred breeding. Some years ago it lost the establishments of Charles E. Perkins Alisal Ranch and of Ed Neely Happy Canon Ranch , but in late years it has added Walter J. Thompsons Rancho Felicia, Mrs. Amory Hutchinsons "Westerly," and the ranches of John Gardner, Jess Clark, Dr. Anker K. Jensen, G. M, Elmore and others to its roster of breeders.
