C. V. Whitney String of Fiye Arrives at Suffolk Downs SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 27. Mother, a candidate for .Mondays 0,000 Tomasello Memorial Handicap, headed a string of five C. V. Whitney horses that arrived at Suffolk Downs this morning in charge of Danny Kearney. The others of the Whitney string to be campaigned here next week are Nesophar, Silver Crest, Top Honors and The Blues. Clarence Picou, who was the toast of New England jockeys last season, is now the contract rider for the Whitney stable and will be on hand Monday to ride Mother in her stakes engagement. Patrons of Suffolk Downs will remember "Mother as winner of the 1946 edition of the Betsy Ross Stakes. The following year, the gray daughter of Mahmoud returned here and was installed the choice in the Hannah Dustin Handicap, but failed her backers after being roughed badly soon after the start of the race. Sylvester Veitch, head trainer of the C. V. Whitney establishment, is expected to arrive here in time to saddle the five-year-old mare on Monday. -
