New Jerseys spring racing reaches its high point tomorrow on the semi-final day of Garden State Parks meeting when Fred W. Hoopers Olympia and Isidore Biebers Palestinian, outstanding candidates for three-year-old honors resume their rivalry in the 0,000 Jersey Stakes, richest race of the states season. Five colts were named overnight to run for the mile and a quarter stake, the others being Greentree Stables One Hitter, Eugene Jacobs Colonel Mike, and H. W. Finchers improving Air Attack. Under the conditions of the race, Olympia, winner of seven sophomore stakes, must shoulder top weight of 126 pounds. Palestinian gets in with 114. The others are assigned only 111-pound imposts. Arcaro to Ride Favorite Once again, Eddie Arcaro will have the mount on Olympia, who figures to be a slight post time favorite, with Palestinian a strong second choice. Hedley Woodhouse, who piloted Palestinian to third money in Ponders Kentucky Derby, returns to the helm, after having been supplanted by Arcaro in the Preakness renewal in which the Sun Again colt was beaten a head by the fleet Capot. Ted Atkinson is to ride One Hitter, who was third to Olympia in the latters Withers Stakes victory at Belmont Park last Saturday. Colonel Mike, who was second to Hedgewood in a tune-up here this week, will have the services of Jimmy Stout, Continued on Page Two v , . i Olympia, Palestinian Resume Rivalry in Rich Jersey Stakes One Hitter, Colonel Mike, Air Attack Complete Field Yith Hooper, Bieber Colts Continued from Page One while Air Attack, winner of an overnighter last week-end, will be manned by Porter Roberts. v If nothing else, the Jersey should go a long way toward settling the question of superiority between Olympia and Palestinian. It should also determine with some degree of finality the ability of the former, a son of Heliopolis Miss Dolphin, to carry his high speed over 10 furlongs. Palestinian, who headed Olympia in the homestretch of the Wood Memorial, only to be outgamed in the final leaps, will be favored by the 12-pound weight shift. They were at level weights in the Wood, also in the Derby in which Olympia, odds-on, stopped at the head of the stretch to finish sixth, 14 lengths behind unpredictable Ponder and seven off Palestinian. In earlier meetings, Olympia took the Flamingo at Hialeah, and both divisions of the Experimental Handicap at Jamaica, with Palestinian down the course. In addition to those victories, the Ivan Parke-trained Olympia won the Derby Trial at Churchill Downs and the San Felipe at Santa Anita. With showers only a remote possibility todays weather forecast was cloudy and cool it seemed probable that Olympia, who favors a fast track, would have his sort of going. He did win the Wood on a sloppy strip, but is thought to favor better conditions. While Palestinian did run an improved race under Arcaro in the Preakness and just missed catching Capot in the final yards, there was no fault to be found with Woodhouses ride in the Derby. The latter saved ground early, made his move at the right point and loomed a threat in the stretch only to have the Hirsch Jacobs charge falter in the drive. One Hitter May Favor Distance One Hitter, who finished swiftly in the one mile Withers, may be benefited by the added quarter mile. .Racing for the first time since his disappointing effort in the Wood, Colonel Mike was a tiring horse in the last furlong of an overnighter at a mile and 70 yards on Wednesday at Camden. He figures to improve off that showing and should be benefitted by the handling of Stout, Jerseys leading rider for the last three years. Air Attack showed an improved race last Saturday when he defeated a fair field of three-year-olds with a come-from-behind effort. Given second billing on the day that should bring out the biggest crowd of the 24-day meeting is the eighth running of the 0,000 Rancocas Stakes, a five-furlong test for two-year-old fillies. Heading the field of 16 is Alfred G. Vanderbilts Bed o Roses, heroine of Wednesdays filly division of the National Stallion Stakes at Belmont. Under the conditions of the stake, the Rosemont filly must pick up 112 pounds. Her more formidable opposition includes Honeywell Farms Faneuil Miss, William G. Helis Bridal Shower, Willow Brook Stables White Bones, a good winner at the meeting, and Brookmeade Stables Pilayya. Completing the field are Carolyn K. Stables Joy C, Redland Stables Social Side, E. M. OBriens Abbie Co, Pentagon Stabies Chloe, J. M. Roeblings Calumny and Carmagnole, Arthur B. Hancock, Jr.s, Starsnstripes, Paul Mellons Airolo, Brook-field Farms Ida C, Walter M. Jeffords My Rose and Janet Kellys Jaleen. MILTON RIESER Saddled Time Lark for his surprise accounting in yesterdays fourth race at Washington Park.
