Club Owners OK Chandler s Terms Deal Becomes Final When Happy Quits Delegate Giles to Inform v Commissioner of Decision; Executive Group in Charge By CARL LEVDQUIST United Press Sports Writer NEW YORK, N. Y., June 14.— A special meeting of major league club owners broke up today after "reaching a decision" *on the severance contract submitted to them by Baseball Commissioner A". B. "Happy" Chandler. The announcement did not say what the decision was, but.it was understood that the club owners had decided to grant all the concessions sought by Chandler provided he would resign his post immediately. Warren Giles, President of the Cincinnati Reds, was delegated to advise Chandler of the. action tomorrow and work out the" details. "I dont expect any trouble," Giles said. Giles said he will see Chandler at Cincinnati. The club owners tried to contact Chandler today as he was driving from his Versailles, Ky., home, to Knoxville, Tenn., where he is speaking tonight. When they failed, they decided to break up and let Giles handle thematter for them at Cincinnati tomorrow. Advised of Action , Although the club owners failed to reach him, Chandler learned of the action which was taken at the special meeting by telephone from his Cincinnati office when he stopped at Jellico, Tenn., about 65 miles from Knoxville. He told questioners that he had been *» advised of the action, but declined to discuss it until he reached Knoxville. After the club owners meeting broke out, the executive council, which, would rule baseball until a new commissioner is selected, went into session. It is made up of Presidents Ford Frick of the National League and William Harridge of the American League, Giles and owner Tom Yawkey of the Boston Red Sox. It was indicated that the club owners signed the agreement submitted by Chandler, but stipulated that it would not go into effect until he stepped out of office. His contract, which the club owners voted not to renew last December and again in March, does not run out until midnight, April 30, 1952.
