Dodgers Edge Cards, 2-1 On Hodges Homer in Ninth ST. LOUIS, Mo., June 14 UP.-jGU Hodges 20th home run of the season gave the Brooklyn Dodgers a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals today. Hodges ninth inning clout came with. Duke Snider aboard to snap Cardinal rookie Joe Preskos victory skein at five wins. It was a drive deep into the left center field bleachers and the first really hard-hit ball off Preskos fine pitching effort. The victory was Brooklyns sixth straight over the Cardinals and was credited to relief pitcher Carl Erskine who went in when starter Ralph Branca was lifted for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning. Brooklyn had only seven hits to the Cardinals 15, but the Cards, who have stranded baserunners regularly of late, hit new heights of futility in the game. They scored their only run in the fourth on singles by Stan Musial, Bill Howerton and Nippy Jones.
