Illinois Notes FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, III., May 30, Trainer Jack Merchut stated that George and James Hejna, owners of horses that he conditions, will motor here with their families from their Chicago homes to view the week-end programs. George Hejna owns First Night and Miss Smarty, while his brother, James, is represented by Criss Cross and Leo P. McL., a scheduled starter-in the Decoration Day Handicap. ! Trainer R. J. Surgi has registered the trio of racers, Copete, Macapt, and Earl Jr, who will race for E. F. Moran. Raymond E. Hopton, assistant racing secretary and placing judge will motor to Chicago over the week-end for a brief visit there. Ralph W. Stubbs, accompanied by his wife, motored here from Omaha, Nebraska, ! where he paid a brief visit and will remain here to view the racing programs over the holiday. Stubbs will depart for Madison, Nebraska where he will serve as steward and racing secretary throughout the Nebraska half-miler circuit. J E. Mclntyre and F. Schroeder, Jr., motored here last week-end and witnessed the performance of Fabulous South, in the Fairmount Handicap. The filly is owned in partnership by the Evansville, Indiana owners and gave a creditable performance to finish second to be beaten narrowly by the heavily backed Hard Toab. Fabulous South is expected to be a strong contender in this Saturdays St. Louis handicap at the same distance. No claims have been registered here in the first four nights of racing.
