Detroits 30,000 Patrons Set Marks on Holiday Prince Adaris Carries Greathouse Colors to Fore in Juvenile Event DETROIT, Mich., May 30. Attendance and totalisator records were shattered here today when a gala holiday throng of approximately 30,000 spectators turned out for the Memorial Day program at this spacious Detroit race course. With ideal weather and a fast track prevailing for the sport, the huge crowd was treated to excellent racing, featured by the 1952 renewal of the Fred M. Alger Memorial, which brought out such speedy performers as Clarence Hartwicks Sickles Image, Spring-brook Farms Pur Sang, Duntreath Farms Dixie Flyer, Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffers Bully Boy, and Starboard Stables Bated Breath, among others. Prince Adaris, a handsome son of Adaris and Pharalet, carried the colors of Mr. and Mrs. H. I. Greathouse to a well-deserved graduation verdict in the four and one-half furlongs third race, which matched eight two-year-olds. Coming from off the early pace under a heady ride from Lois Cook, the Greathouse colt streaked to the wire three and one-half .lengths before T. M. Girdlers Fastener, who achieved place honors by slightly more than a length from Kitchen and Reams Six Thirty, the early pacemaker. James Paddocks favored Tomi Blu raced greenly and quite wide during the juvenile dash and could do no better than fifth. Prince Adaris skipped over the firm footing in a creditable :54 and, continuing the onslaught on public choices, returned backers a bit better than 14 to 1. John Stelle, former governor of Illinois, sent out the winner in the six-furlong second when Tommy Mac carried his silks to a surprising success and paid the longest straight price ever registered at the Detroit race course, 90.60. Well ridden by Hiram Tackett, Tommy Mac coasted to the final marker with slightly more than three lengths on his nearest rival, Jerry McCarthys Mary Like, pacemaker for the greater part of the sprint. Just a head back, Arlington Farms Royal Luck was along to easily garner the show by three lengths from R. A. Paracheks Tobo. David Zakoors Tramore Bay, with Willie Zakoor at the reins, whipped nine other useful middle distance racers in the mile and one-sixteenth opener. I. J. Collins Beau Nash ran second, while J. and R. Benedicts favored Billcella saved third. Tramore Bay paid 3.60 straight, and the Daily Double pay-off with Tommy Mac was 63.60.
