Harborville Stables Dark Peter, at equal 122 pound weights j with the winner, lost his will to run when headed and he had a tendency ,to bear out on the turns, but he lasted to be second by a length over Hal Price Headleys Jumbo, who closed ground on the rail to be a head in f rot of H. A. Kimballs Algasir. Woodchuck was favored by the crowd of 40,196 and paid .00. The attendance came within 2,000 of the all-time record at this course on Labor Day in 1945, and the wagering was going well above ,500,000. The weather was cool and breezy, and a light drizzle fell during the early races, which in no way affected the rapidity of the racing strip.
