Andy B. W. Tops Eight in Narcissus Hasty House Has Couplings For Two Lincoln Attractions - Seaward, Ruhe, Inseparable Seek New Stake; Latter in Crusader With Roman Bath HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 30. Lincoln Fields new stake race, the one and one-sixteenth mile Narcissus Handicap, which will have its inaugural running at Hawthorne tomorrow, drew eight prospective starters through the entry box this morning. Three of them comprise the Hasty House Farm entry of Mr. and Mrs. Allie Reuben, of Toledo, Ohio. One of these, Inseparable, also was named for the three-quarter mile Crusader Purse, which shapes up as an event which will be just as attractive as the nominal 0,000 feature on the nine-race week-end program. "Hasty House Farm, therefore, may rely on Seaward and Ruhe to carry their colors in the Naricssus, while sending Inseparable and Roman Bath out for the ,000 Crusader. Aarons and Hokins four-year-old colt, Andy B. W., winner of the Edward J. Fleming Memorial Handicap last Saturday, will have topweight of 116 pounds for the Narcissus, and will be ridden by jockey Dean Jessop, the nations leading rider in 1945. Trainer Ike Weil says Andy B. W. is "awfully good right now," a statement which was very well substantiated by his performance in the six and one-half furlong Fleming Handicap. The 00 bargain colt demonstrated his ability to handle the distance of the Narcissus when he won the Illinois Owners Handicap at Hawthorne last fall, beating Ruhe and others. Name to Oppose Fleming Winner Challenging the prestige of Andy B. W. and the Hasty House entry for the Narcissus are B. W. Landys Spur On, 114, with J. Adams up; William H. Vennemans Black George, HQ, D. Dodson; Emerald Isle Hotel Stables Torch of Iran, 110, R. Baldwin; M. A. and Roy Saffirs Dr. Ole Nelson, 109, E. J. Knapp. Steve Brooks was named to ride Seaward, 113, with Kenny Church on Ruhe, 111. No rider was named for Inseparable, 111, in the stake. The seven-year-old gelding has the same weight for the Crusader as does his, stablemate, Roman Bath. Church was named the the rider for the latter. Opposing Roman Bath and Inseparable in the Crusader Purse are six of the best sprinters now campaigning in this area. They include Brown Hotel Stables The Gink, 117, who was one of the 15 original nominees for the Narcissus Handicap. Others are H. R. Reid and L. W. Roushs Bloody Step, 111; Felix Randos Starecase, 112; B. W. Landys Asphalt, 112; Reverie Knoll Farms Flyamanita, 106, and Lucian Knight, Jr.s Jacoboy, 104. Another outstanding attraction on the program is the six and one-half furlongs Domino Purse, for which a band of 10 three-yeart-plds was named. Among them are Emerald Hill Stables Blue Shore, 117, and Blue Square, 120, both of which- were original nominees for the Peabody, and Walmac Farms Blue Licks, 114, also an absentee from the Peabody, although eligible. Plunger, with 120, and Nobility, 117, purchased recently from Sam-E. Wilson, Jr., will represent their new owner, B. W. Landy, in the Domino. Completing this field are C. W. Winters Boomer, 117; Brownell Combs Bella Figura, 110; H. G. Bockmans Fancy Step, 115; Clifford Mooers Sky Maid, 115, and H. Allsmans Foxy Wager, J 17. Altogether, this week-end card is one of the best offered in a long time, and is an appropriate finale to the two-day holiday, which winds up Lincoln Fields third week at Hawthorne, with two more weeks to go and many good races yet to come. In the Narcissus tomorrow, Ruhe will be trying for his first victory under the Hasty House Farm colors since his purchase from Mrs. Emil Denemark a few weeks ago. Starting once before, on May 22, for his new owners, Ruhe was narrowly beaten by Sun David in the six-furlong Evergeld Purse. Seaward, winner of the Hawthorne Gold Cup last fall, has the Ben Ali and Clark Handicaps to his credit this year, and has also won the Republic Handicap at Havana, Cuba. Andy B. W.s Fleming victory was his second start of the current season. He won eight of 17 starts last year, the Illinois Owners Handicap being the most important. The French-bred Torch of Iran won his two latest starts, including the Paul Bunyan Purse here on May 15. Spur On, third to False in the Crete Handicap on opening day, then winner of the Steger Handicap on May 17, was unplaced behind Andy B. W. -in the Fleming. The Landy colt previously had won two in a row at Hot Springs, beating Ruhe and False in one of those, a mile and sixteenth handicap.
