Jaako Mikkola, Harvard Track Coach, Dies of Heart Ailment BELMONT, Mass., May 30 UP . Jaako J. Mikkola, 64, head track coach at Harvard for the last 16 years and coach of two Finnish Olympic track teams, died last night at his home of a heart ailment. Well known in track circles throughout the world, Mikkola came to Harvard ih 1921 as assistant track coach though he continued coaching summers in his native Finland until 1924. He coached Finlands track team at the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp and atr the 1924 Olympics ih Paris. He also coached the English Athletic Association teams in the summers of 1935 and 1936 and with several Yale coaches lie took combined Yale-Harvard teams to Britain to compete with combined Oxford-Cambridge track teams. Born in Helsinki, he was educated as a mechanical engineer, but became interested in track and coached an amateur track and field club in Helsingfors from 1906 to i919.
