With the running of the mile and a quarter Jersey Stakes here tomorrow, this meeting will come to the conclusion of the most brilliant and succesful operation in its 11-year history.-Nine sophomores will do battle in the tenth renewal of this 0,000 added fixture, which is the richest purse offering in New Jersey racing. Max Kahlbaums Jampol, whose achievements rate him consideration among the top three-year-olds in the nation, is the head man of the field, and he will be a solid favorite. t All of the other young racers named to the Jersey have been hanging on the fringe of the division of leading sophomores, with the possibility that future results may bring them greater recognition. Starmount Stables Primate and Gustave Smiths Handsome Teddy are to shoulder 118 pounds under the allowances. Jampol has an assignment of 114, while the remainder each will carry 111 pounds. They are High Scud and Armagh, coupled as the King Ranch entry; Isidore Biebers King Jolie, Williiam G. Helis, Jr.s, Topside, Cain Hoy Stables Top Bet and R. B. Carrolls Saddle Tramp. At first glance it appears that the calibre of this field is one of general quality, but lacking the standout performers that have captured the prize in former years. Among the victors of the Jersey were Citation, Ferd, Palestinian, Mahout and Lucky Draw. The track is expected to be fast and the aspirants will be shooting at the course record of 2:01 set by Palestinian with 114 pounds in the Jersey renewal of 1949. The entire eight-race program is an attractive one, and a crowd of record proportions would not be surprising. Prior to the Memorial Day and final card, the meeting is presently running a daily average handle of ,637,000, for an average of .23 per cent over last spring, and well above the golden year of 1946. Jampol, a gelding son of Thumbs Up Winkle n., has withstood a long, hard campaign this season beginning last winter in Miami. His earnings in 1952 thus far have exceeded 0,000 through a record of two. victories and four seconds in 10 starts. His last essay was in the Preakness Stakes, in which he gave a determined effort to finish some three and a half-lengths back and second to the winning Blue Man. He had captured the Preakness" Prep a week earlier, defeating Pintor and Handsome Teddy, reversing a decision with the latter when a neck behind him in the Chesapeake Stakes at Laurel.
