p Gift Silver at Fairmount Park FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., June 27. Gift Silver, the Cinderella horse, who didnt quite get to the post in the Kentucky Derby, arrived here and will probably make his first start at this meeting. By the obscure sire, Drift Silver, and the unfashionable dam, Nylon Lady, Gift Silver was bred and is owned by an Iowa Diesel engineer, Odie Newell, and trained jointly by Newell and his wife, Gladys. The Newells shipped Gift. Silver to Churchill Downs three weeks before the Derby and went ahead with preparing him for the big race even though he never had started. However, their dream was shattered when the colt bolted into a returning horse during a workout. The stewards advised Newell that they deemed it inadvisable to start the green horse against such a field as would start in the Derby. Newell then shipped his charge back to his Iowa farm for further education and only a few days ago brought him into quarters here.
