Seven to Contest Leonard Richards High Scud, Sensational Kent Victor, Meets Golden Gloves Both Winners in Last Two Outings; Brush Burn, Jampol Threats in Rich Delaware Test By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 27.-The 7,500 added Leonard Richards Stakes, formerly the Diamond State Stakes, has its fifteenth and most lucrative running tomorrow afternoon as the featured event on Delaware Parks semi-final weekend attraction. Should the overnight field of seven sophomores remain intact, the gross purse for this mile and a furlong run will be 2,920, with the owner of the successful participant taking down a net purse of 2,035. King Ranchs High" Scud, sensational winner of the mile and a sixteenth Kent in track record time of 1:42, and Belair Studs Golden Gloves, the Shevlin victor, carry 119 pounds each, with the other starters carrying 114 pounds apiece. The remaining entrants are: Stanley C. Mikells Brush Burn, Max Kahlbaums Jampol, Mrs. Esther duPont Weirs Star of Persia, Savoy Stables Fred R., and Foxcatcher Farms Chello. High Scud was a bit slow in coming to hand this season but his two races over the local course indicate that he can hold his own with top members of the division. His first appearance resulted in a galloping 15-length score in i:44 for a mile and a sixteenth. He returned with his standard-lowering effort in the Kent to pick up a purse of 2,350. That was more than twice as much as the Bernborough colt had earned in 11 previous starts during his career. As in his winning efforts, High Scud will be ridden by Ira "Babe" Hanford. Golden Gloves, a son of Isolater, joined the select group of three-year-old stakes winners just 10 days ago when he accounted for the Shevlin with a mile and a sixteenth spin in 1:44. That, incidentally, was his fifth victory of the season, which gives him a shade over his Richards rivals in that respect. He has gleaned almost 5,000 in 16 starts this season. Nick Wall will be astride Golden Gloves and will be striving for a double in the race, having accounted for the 1944 running with Longchamps Farms Grant Rice. Both Sons of Bernborough Brush Burn, like High Scud, is a son of Bernborough and seems to have attained his true form just recently. Unsuccessful in his seasonal bow, the Mikell racer was altered and has since won two races in as many endeavors. He was timed a mile and a sixteenth in 1:45 the first time, then shaved four-fifths of a second off that mark in his subsequent sortie. Danny Johnston returns to the saddle for the Richards running. Jampol was a bitter disappointment in the Kent, fmishihg more than a dozen lengths behind High Scud. His general form, however, has been very good, with many in-the-money performances in stakes company, enabling him to earn in excess of 0,000. He was second in the Flamingo, Chesapeake and Preakness, with his lone stakes success coming in the Preakness Prep. Eugene Rodriguez will be down to e handle the Thumbs Up gelding. Fred R. is being elevated considerably for this engagement, but his showing in allowance company indicates that he rates such an opportunity. The Requested colt has won four of his 10 starts and recently was an impressive winner over a muddy track, leading Chello by three and one-half lengths. SW of Persia was beaten at odds-on in his last appearance, but earlier in I the meeting romped off with a nine-length victory while "being timed in 1:44.
