Hulf Down Hugs Rail To Score at Aqueduct- Skips to Finish. Fiye Lengths Before Nullify and Sun Rene AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 27. Mrs. Edward Laskers Hull Down hugged the inside rail, while his chief rivals were losing ground in the featured Manhattan Beach Handicap today and skipped to the " m finish of the mile and a furlong five lengths before Phantom Farms Nullify. Dave Shaers Sun Rene was another head away after setting the pace to .the stretch, then drifting very wide. Fourth honors went to Abe Levinsons High Bracket, who wore himself out chasing the pacemaker and finished two lengths out of the money. v Woolford Farms Saxony was the favorite and trailed for all but a few strides of the journey, appearing to dislike the track. Hull down paid .80 to his numerous supporters in the crowd of 14,797, and Bill Boland hustled him through the nine panels in 1:52. The afternoon was considerably more comfortable than yesterday, a shift in the wind bringing a pleasant breeze into the stands which yesterday were a "fiery furnace." The veteran Nick Wall tried to "steal" the Manhattan Beach on the sprinter, Sun Rene. There was nothing wrong with his methods as he was able to take a daylight lead while going a half mile in a sluggish :49, but the Sun Again gelding just couldnt get the distance despite the false pace. High Bracket chased the leader, also under mild restraint in the early stages, while Hull Down was in third place, closely - followed by Nullify, Dart By and Saxony. Rounding the far turn, Wall tried to widen his lead with Sun Rene and, while he was able to pull away from High Bracket, Hull! Down quickly moved up on the rail to take up the chase. Curving for home, Sun Rene began to drift out, while Hull Down stayed on the rail, saving enough ground to put him level with the pacemaker. He drew away in the final furlong under mild urging, while Nullify came up on the outside of Sun Rene to take second money in the final stride.
