i Brandeis Memorial t Engages Fourteen Bolingcall, Auntie, Here Me And French Admiral Meet In ,000 Ak-Sar-Ben Race ! By J. SWEENEY GRANT Staff Correspondent AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 2.7. : Fourteen of the more formidable middle- distance performers ever to race in this sector have been named to contest tomorrows renewal of he ,000 George Bran- -deis Memorial Handicap. The mile and one-sixteenth feature, named in honor of the man who was most instrumental in the return of thoroughbred racing to Nebraska following an absence of several years, had its first running in 1948 and has been an annual event ever since. This year four sets of entries comprise the list of contemplated starters. It is expected that two or more of the candidates will be declared befbre post time. However, should the owner of each entrant choose to send their charge postward all 14 will be accorded the opportunity of facing started Eric Blind. Should the entire overnight field parade postward two of the entrants will be compelled to break from outside the 12-stall barrier. Coupled in the wagering for tomorrows event are the Monaghan Stables Boling-call, who has been assigned the top impost of 114 pounds, and his stablemate Toubo-lee, who- has been allocated 104; Marion H. VanBergs French Admiral, 113, and Countess In, 107; Mrs. Paul Weyermans Here Me, 113, and Caucus, 108; and William S. Clines Dad, 111, and Ben Fogel-sons Ill Be, 105. The latter tandem will be saddled by trainer L. B. Kindle. Completing the bulky field are S. S. Barretts Auntie, 112, Guy and Walter Shultz Butch K., 108; J. W. Coopers Undone, 107; Team and Younts Blunt, 106; the Lbveland Stables First Blue, 105, and John H. Nail, Jr.s Three Flights, 103. Several Have Scored in Feature Events Several of the starters have accounted for at least one of the numerous assigned weight events presented thus far during the meeting. In fact the entire field have literally taken, turns at beating one another and any one could be returned the victor of tomorrows encounter without creating too much of a surprise. Top weight honors fell to Bolingcall more or less for his consistency. He has been close up in each of his earlier starts here and lists to his credit victory in the Man o War Handicap. In his last start he was defeated the narrowest of margins by Auntie, who finally connected after finishing in the runner-up spot several times. Both Auntie and Bolingcall are picking up two additional pounds over their last meeting and theoretically they should just about finish on even terms again tomorrow. Both are favored by an "off" strip which is likely to prevail. Here Me was impressive in his one winning effort here and pound for pound probably is the best horse in the race. He was fourth last time to Auntie and Bolingcall while spotting his rivals several pounds. His stablemate, Caucus found the range in the Ak-Sar-Ben Ambassador Handicap v and defeated among others Blunt, Undone, French Admiral, Butch K., and First Blue. French Admiral, holder of the local track record of 1:40 for the mile and 70 yard distance, returned to actual competition in the Ambassador and was decisively defeated by Caucus. French Admiral requires a fast strip for his best performance. Countess In came up the proverbial "good thing" in her last start in the J. E. David-; son Memorial, but failed to beat a horse while running seventh and last to Auntie. 1 Butch K., was the reigning champion during the earlier part of the meeting, but evidently has tailed off since. He defeated the majority of tomorrows opponents while at his best, but in recent outings he has bowed to his previous victims. Dad is a hard runner and he never fails to come forth with a creditable performance over a slow or heavy strip, which may be in evidence. Ill Be is a superior mud-runner and must be accorded an outside chance should he be fortunate enough to catch his track. The same goes for the overworked Undone, who has started on the average of three times a week during this session. First Blue and Three Flights have been unimpressive during their local tenure and hardly seem on a plane with their more highly regarded rivals. Toubolee has been known to upset calculations on occasion.
