J. MURPHY ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 27. The presence of William Helis, Jr.s, Spartan Valor in Saturdays 0,000 added Equi- poise Mile failed to frighten the trainers of a dozen other thoroughbreds at this track. They are going to send members of the racing stock in their care after the. current turf king, probably being of the opinion that his topweight of 132 pounds will cut him down to their size. Trainer Harry Trotsek, a firm believer in strength of numbers, has listed four to carry the Hasty House Farms silks, while trainer J. Jansen has designated two to represent Sam E. Wilson, Jr. The Hasty House quartet are Ruhe, Oir Capitol, Inseparable and Seaward. The Wilson duo are Royal Mustang and Golden Birch. Others in the field are Larry MacPhails General Staff, Palatine Stables Woodchuck, Red and Green Stables Andy B. W., Mrs. J. P. Keezeks Abbe Sting, Reid and Roushs Bloody Step, and Andrew Crevolins Valquest. Woodchuck, to be ridden by Eddie Arcaro, is closest to Spartan Valor in the matter of poundage. He will have 122 up. Then come Oil Capitol, with 115; Seaward and Andy B. W., with 114 each; Ruhe and General Staff, with 112; Inseparable, 109; Abbe Sting, 108; Bloody Step -and Royal Mus- . tang, 107; Valquest, 105, and Golden Birch, 103. Arcaro to Be Honored Tomorrow will be known as Eddie Arcaro Day here at Arlington -Park and appropriate ceremonies will be held in the winners circle following the running of the feature race. Unable to arrange appropriate festivities to commemorate Arcaro riding his 3,000th winner last Tuesday, the Arlington management has set aside tomorrow to honor the famed rider. Presentations will be made by Stuyvesant Peabody, Jr., Illinois Racing Board chairman; John D. Allen, president of Arlington Park, and Ike Bassett, -midwest manager: of the Jockeys Guild. Jimmy Durante, star of the stage, screen, radio and television, will act as master of ceremonies. Spartan Valor will be going for his eighth straight success of the year. He has been beaten but once this season, that by Woodchuck in his first start, which was in a six-furlong race at Tropical Park. He . has won six stakes, namely the Inaugural Continued on Page Three Spartan Valor Gives Twelve Opponents Considerable Weight in Equipoise Mile Carries 732 to Woodchucks 122; Hasty House Farm Has Four Entrants in Fixture Continued from Page One "Handicap, the McLennan Handicap, and The Widener at Hialeah,H;heExcelsiorand the Gallant Fox Handicaps at Jamaica, and the Valley Forge Handicap at Garden State Park. Prominent among his victims have been Woodchuck, who he trimmed twice after bowing to the latter; Call Over, Greek Ship, Auditing, Alerted, Three Rings, Crafty Admiral, Pilaster, Oil Capitol, Mass I o Gold, and Abbe Sting. Should he win the Equipoise Mile, Spartan Calors earnings for the season will just about touch 00,000. As a three-year-old last year he earned 3,575. In his last six starts the son of Attention has been victorious by two or more lengths and he was favored in all, his price never having been better than two to one. He will be ridden by Jimmy Stout, the jockey who has piloted him in each Of his starts this year. He has led for the entire trip in all but two of those races, and in the Valley Forge Handicap carried 130 pounds in beating Call Oyer, who had 116. Call Over was regarded as the Garden State champion, having won three stakes over that course last autumn. Woodchuck, who made the first start of his career at Tropical Park last December, has never been asked to go over seven furlongs. The son of Pasteurized won his m-itial race by four lengths, and then took the Christmas Purse at Tropical by three. He was an even, money favorite when he hooked Spartan Valor on New Years Day and defeated him by two and one-half lengths. On January 17 Woodchuck tasted defeat for the first time when he bowed to Spartan Valor and Jumbo Jn the Hialeah Inaugural. He then finished second to Crafty Admiral in the Palm Beach Handicap, second to Spartan Valor in an allowance race, then won an allowance race; was fourth in the Capitol Handicap at Laurel, which was won by Algasir; won the Paumonok at Jamaica from Squared Away, Jumbo, Pet Bully and others: was seventh in the Jamaica Handicap, which was won byJTea-Maker; won an allowance race from Algasir and others at Garden State; and in his last start was a galloping victor over Dark Peter, Jumbo and Algasir in the Cam-, den Handicap at the New Jersey course. General Staff, winner of three races last year, finished far back of Woodchuck in the Camden, but connected at Delaware Park early this month when he ran six furlongs in 1:10, and was then a stakes winner over Hi Billee, the Laurel Handicap winner, and Northern Star, the Rumson Handicap winner, at Monmouth Park. Abbe Sting, who was a surprise second to Hall of Fame in the American Derby of last year, failed to win in his first 11 starts of 1952, but recently clicked here in winning the Ranger Purse at one and one-eighth miles. Andy B. W. won the Edward J. Fleming Memorial at the Lincoln Fields session and was third to Ruhe and Seaward in the Narcissus Handicap. Three of the Hasty House horses are stakes winners this year. Seaward took the Ben Ali Handicap at Keeneland, the Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs, and the Lincoln Handicap at Lincoln-at-Haw-thorne; Ruhe won the Narcissus Handicap at the latter meeting, and Oil Capitol defeated Greek Ship and others in the New Orleans Handicap at the Fair Grounds. Inseparable lone triumph was scored in an allowance race at the Lincoln Fields meeting when he beat Abbe Sting. Bloody Step, won his first race in four starts this year when he beat Roman Bath and others in a six-furlong event at Lin-coln-at-Hawthome, while Valquest, who did not race last year, finished second to Fleet Ace at Garden State Park in his comeback effort. He was recently beaten off here in an allowance race won by Sabaean. Royal Mustang, whose greatest claim to fame was a second to Count Turf in the Kentucky Derby of 1951 has started twice this season without success, while Golden Birch, an English four-year-old, is still a maiden. Post time for the first race Saturday will be 1:30 p. m., and added attractions will be the ,500 Kenwood Handicap for three-year-olds at one mile and a pair of i turf events, each at one and one-eighth I miles. Among the starters in the Kenwood will be Oh Leo, Old Fiddle, Eljay, Dark Count, Jet Ace, and other good young racers.
